why did he ghost me?
almost always because ending things out loud felt harder than disappearing, and disappearing was available. ghosting is an avoidance move: it tells you how that person handles discomfort, and roughly nothing about your worth. the kindest true thing about ghosting is that it's information about them, not a verdict on you.
you will not find the reason by re-reading your last message. your last message was fine.
what counts as ghosting, and what are its cousins?
- ghosting. disappearing mid-conversation or mid-connection. an active chat with momentum stops dead from one side, no explanation filed. chronic when it keeps happening.
- airing. the messages are read, no reply comes back, and they're visibly active elsewhere. the read receipt is doing all the talking.
- orbiting. ignores the messages, watches every story. present in your notifications, absent from your chat. a fan of the show who won't speak to the cast.
- zombie-ing. returns after the silence like nothing happened. "hey you" in november, warm as ever, no reference to the eight missing weeks. the gap is the finding.

when is it not ghosting?
the honest hedge, because silence has boring explanations too:
- a week of silence during exams is not ghosting. neither is a bereavement, a new job, or a phone at the bottom of a canal. life produces gaps. the difference is that busy people come back with context, not amnesia.
- one slow patch is not a pattern. a quiet few days in an otherwise steady chat is a few days. patterns need repetition. chronic disappearing, the vanish-return-vanish cycle, is the pattern.
- slow fades and dry spells are their own thing. someone whose replies are shrinking is fading, not ghosting. related, different file.
and the part worth saying plainly: whatever the receipts show, they will not show that you caused it. people who want to talk to you, talk to you. that sentence has no known exceptions.
what do you do with it?
not a twelve-step win-him-back plan. there isn't one on this website. just the calm version:
- check the timeline. when did the last reply land, and were they active elsewhere after it?
- check for repeats. first vanish, or third? one gap is an event. three is a pattern.
- if they return, note what the return message does. acknowledges the gap, or pretends the gap isn't there?
textRay puts the disappearing act on file. share screenshots, paste the chat, or add a WhatsApp export, and the scan reads both sides: reply gaps, activity patterns, whether this is a one-off or a cycle. if ghosting is supported, it's cited, quotes and timeline attached, counterevidence one tap away. and then the case is closed, which is the actual goal. calmer, not more haunted.
file the ghost. keep the weekend.

The plain version.
Findings describe patterns in a conversation, not verdicts on a person, and a ghosting finding is never evidence that the person who was ghosted did something wrong. textRay asks for consent before any AI processing, reads both sides, and reports stay until you delete them. An initial scan is 1 credit, a full scan is 3, with no subscription. If a chat involves threats or pressure rather than silence, the app moves to plain language and support options.
